Pros of using Wearables

Wearables nowadays have the ability to retrieve different information about the user’s physical parameter; this ability helps the user to know better about his/her own health condition and the things that they must consider to maintain good health (Green et al., 2014).

Hands-free user experience

Wearables are the devices that are worn in the body and it would lose its charm if the user has to use their hand to perform every single task every single time. Most of the wearables out now can receive messages, communicate with others and provide visual aids all while user’s hands remain free for other tasks.

Health and fitness

Many wearables these days are health orientated and the popularity of these wearables is rising rapidly. Being technologically advanced, wearable devices can track and keep record of nearly everything, from physical workouts to sleep and even the heart beat (Silverman, 2005).

Cons of using Wearables


Data accuracy

Probably one of the biggest flaw in the wearables till now is the data accuracy, none of the manufacturers have been able to come up with a product that is fully accurate on physiological measurements (Barett, 2015). For this problem to be fixed the sensors in the wearables should be positioned well and the data measurement should be done properly and accurately (Barett, 2015).

Privacy and security concern

Wearables being so advanced possess a serious threat of privacy. The small cameras present in the wearables can hold a serious issue of privacy and security; for example while at a gathering a wearable device may be recording the videos or images of the people present there without the knowledge of the person (Mottakin, 2013). Google glass is a major example of a wearable contradicted most for its privacy concerns and security issues.

Limited Computer powering and battery issues

Wearables are advanced technological devices but user should not expect desktop or even notebook level performance out of them as they are mainly specific to a field with few simple functions (Barett, 2015). Being small and compact most part of the wearables is occupied by the batteries and rests are other equipment like microprocessor (Barett, 2015). Another major issue with the wearables is the battery life. Even though most part of the wearables consist of batteries they do not last long enough depending on the product; because manufactures use lightest possible batteries in order to maintain light weight (Barett, 2015).
